Qualifications and experience
I have a degree in Italian, French and linguistics and I am qualified to teach English as a foreign language.
However, my practical expertise in plain English has come from:
working at Plain English Campaign;
providing training for my previous employers on how to write in plain English;
writing plain English data protection law guidance while at the Information Commissioner's Office;
teaching English as a foreign language overseas, and also in the UK to refugees;
writing internal privacy policies and external privacy notices as a data protection officer for different companies;
editing and drafting internal company policies on a wide range of topics;
providing internal and external privacy training; and
helping a range of clients both improve their written materials and learn how to write in plain English.
While my focus is plain English, the key principles can apply to all languages.
